The Embarrassed Winter

As a youth and a child, I have always felt the plight of the underprivileged, the economically disabled souls and haven’t failed to observe how a particular occasion is a joy for someone and at the same time a nightmare for those underprivileged souls. I am not a poet, I never wish to call myself by that title, I am merely an injured observer. In this poem, I have got myself injured by the observations of how a particular season brings joy to certain sections of people along with nightmarish situation to other section of people.

Literature is not created out of a vacuum, true. It was a night of winter, it was a night of downpour when I wrote this piece. While writing this, my thoughts have revolved around the broken huts and the muddy slums, the footpaths overpopulated with failures of the corporate world and the few occasional token of corporate charity. In this poem, it has been presented how a season of winter brings joy to few and misery to many, how there exists a contradiction in the winter, how a beauty amidst misery lies boldly. In this poem lot of metaphors have been used and so it should be read carefully and it should not be taken literally. Even the winter itself can be taken as a metaphor for various such parallel event. Special attention should be paid to understand in what relation the phrase ‘winter & joy’ has been used, how differently the ‘winter’ and ‘joy’ has been treated.

When the paths get covered by dense fog,
when the sun sleeps a bit more,
when the forests wear its new clothes,
when the faded yellow light brings joy,
And, when the yellow rays in the lush green woods splinter,
The nature tells you, it's a new winter.

Winter, like the poverty, is left all alone,
the skin of winter is hammered with the kind stone.
The fresh blood of winter travels in the veins of summer,
spreading joy and giving life like a flowing river.
The warm summer on the skin of joy,
snatched from the poor winter boy,
Signifying the universal diversity of winter & joy.

The joy of Red & white caps,
makes the sorrow nights collapse,
though transiently, but for eternity.
The merry nights, and the friendly Christmas naps,
with the gifts, fulfil the desire of the young chaps,
marked with utter serenity.

And then, the melting of snow with visible paths,
the smile of trees with green grass,
Bids Goodbye to the injured winter.
The winter clears the path for the next traveller,
the diversity of winter & joy prevails even further,
Truth stands upright, the change fails to change the murder.

More than 12 years in India’s education system; not just an experience

The year 1997, I was born on this amazing planet and in this incredulous country, India. And then, as it happens, the moment we are born our education starts and it ends only on our death bed. My education started when I was in my mother’s womb. The growth started there, I learnt how to survive in that dark but, safe world. And the process of ‘being educated’ started when I didn’t even knew the meaning of ‘education’. Sometimes I wonder, probably, we become educated only at the time when we get to understand the true meaning of ‘education’ and the true way to use our ‘educated mind’.  I didn’t go to any school or Institute to learn the language ‘Bengali’, neither for learning to ‘crawl’, ‘walk’, ‘speak’, ‘bath’. I learnt all these so easily without any schools, books, teachers etc. Now also, I learn, but, in a different way, with the help of teachers, books etc. The question my mind asks is- Do we know how to learn? I remember, once, one of my teachers quoted “First Learn how to learn”. Did I mention Bengali? Yeah, I did. Let’s talk about languages. How easily we learnt our mother tongue in our childhood, then why we face trouble in learning other languages, even when we are taught by our hon’ble teachers? According to my understandings, the way we are taught in our schools or tuition are full of flaws. We learn a language by ‘hearing’, ‘speaking’, ‘thinking’, ‘writing’, ‘reading’, in that language. Now tell me, how many of the Indian schools encourage the students to read, think, write, speak and hear the particular language even on outside their school’s campus and the boundaries of the prescribed syllabus?I remember how it all started, nothing seems worth now, because, I am learning the same concepts taught there, now, in a different way and approach. That concept taught in that particular approach and way is now obsolete. What I have seen is that the majority of competitive exams basically tests how you excelled in the basic concepts. Yes, I am talking about the competitive exams, because, now a day, it is not the marks you get in 10+2 which matters (partially matters- the minimum marks) but, the rank you get on your entrance exam. I think it’s a very innovative approach, every institution/colleges/universities should conduct entrance exam and admit the students on the basis of rank secured by them. Generally, the Competitive Exams, like CAT/NIFT/NDA/CPT/XAT/MAT/CLAT covers these sections (some, if not all) (levels are different) English, Maths, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning,  Knowledge of the Legal world, Economics, International Affairs etc. Most of the competitive exams, which generally people appear after 10+2, tests these, by that time all the basics should have been cleared but, yet people face troubles and prepare to re-learn the basic concepts. Then what went wrong in learning the basics at the school level? Wasn’t the basic cleared properly? I have tried to identify the following flaws:-

i.Lack of practical approach (or skill development)

ii.Obsolete ways of teachings

iii.Learns new and higher level concepts, when the lower level concepts/extreme basics are not cleared properly

iv.Some students get humiliated when he/she fails to understand an entire subject and beliefs on the teacher who says ‘you are not good at this subject’ or ‘you don’t have brains to understand this subject’. And then the student declares publicly, for instance, ‘I am not good at mathematics’

v.The theories and the concepts taught are not taught by relating to the current happenings in the world or by showing the implementations on the global stage. For instance, when Govt. of India launched ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) what impact will it have on Individual’s wealth/savings’ or when, ‘after the  RBI Governor, Raghuram Govind Rajan, is appointed, why he felt that CRR(Cash Reserve Ratio) should remain 4% ?’ or ‘what impact will GST(Goods and Service Tax)  (Considered as the biggest tax reform) have on India’s Economy ?’ – these all topics can be very easily discussed in a 12th standard class of Economics but, unfortunately, it is never done.

vi. ‘Lack of Disciplined way of learning/teaching/acquiring education’-
I personally consider the word ‘Discipline’ very significant and when it comes to education, I just can’t ignore it. Indian schools, when a concept/theory is taught, the walls witness murmurs, lack of attention, and lack of questions from the side of the students. We want questions from the students, not mere pillars receiving an education. As Einstein said ‘The most stupid question is the one not asked’. But, yet teachers say ‘Stop asking stupid questions’. When in a library, lack of ‘pin drop’ silence, lack of students’ interest, most of the students come to the library not because they want to read or study/issue books but, because they are having a library period now, and they have to go.

vii.Learns the bulk of stuff, but, fails to understand, how will it help or what use this knowledge have in the latter stage of life?
For instance, a guy who is determined to be Writer (General), fails to understand how will ‘Log’, ‘Trigonometry’, ‘Vector’, ‘Hyperbola’, ‘Permutation’, ‘Production Possibility Curve’, ‘Balance Sheet’, ‘Working Capital’, ‘Carbon Compounds’, ‘Periodic Tables’ ‘Refraction’, ‘Microorganism’ ‘Binary Fusion’ ‘World War I/II’, ‘George Washington’, ‘Newton’, ‘Adam Smith’, ‘Henry Fayol’, ‘Louis Pasteur’, ‘BR Ambedkar’  help him. I am sure you can explain to him how some are important, if not all.

viii.Lack of specialisation-  It has been seen that a student, for instance, secure 7.2 CGPA in class 10, when he studies all the subjects, without any specialised stream, gets 88.8% in class 12 when he studies a specialised stream, say, commerce. When a student passes out 10+2 he/she is not specialised in any subject. 12 years, a waste. Does it take 12 years to learn basics? Along with the general subjects, a student should be allowed to do a specialised study in any subject, for which he will be given a certificate after successful completion. The subject may be, Creative Writing, Architecture, Paintings, Constitution, and Career Counselling etc.

ix.Lack of awareness- I think this as a serious blunder. And I find it most on the parents’ part, for which their wards suffer. Once, when I asked my friend, “why you chose Science stream in your 10+2?” he replied because my father told me that there are fewer career opportunities in commerce stream. I was really shocked by my friend’s reply and getting to know how ignorant he was. Maximum students after class 10 take science, assuming that it will provide them with brilliant career opportunities even if everything goes wrong. And then after 10+2 maximum students who took science in 10+2 take admission for B.Com/BA in a college. This sounds    ridiculous. This shows that people are still sophomoric in deciding their career.

x.Business Motive-   I learnt that schools come under Non-Profit organisations, but, I never realised that. The profit of the school is not recorded as ‘Profit’ but, ‘Surplus’. The schools try to fill their seats; no schools want their seats to be vacant. Please understand, 1 student= Rs.1000 (approx.)x12= Rs 12000. 1 vacant seat means 12000 losses. Now, the schools which produce students of 90% marks are not going to fill their seats anyhow. They will fix their cut-offs high, the creme de la creme students will apply, most of them will get through. Now, in the same school, some students or, at least, one, with around 60-70% marks will get through. How? The teacher, probably the most important one, whom the schools need, will gather support from other teachers and will jointly appeal to the principal to admit that student, chiefly also because he is a home student/student of the same school. But, an outside student with 80% marks will not get through. There are some schools, which will mandate you to purchase uniforms / books from a specific shop, exclusively available, because, at the end of the day, the school will get a commission. Some schools, who want to do the business in a more  profitable manner will sell their books/uniforms in their schools only and will make it mandatory for the students to purchase it from there only. In other languages, they will open many variety shops within the school campus. The students now a day, are no more the ‘students’ for the school but, are ‘clients’ or ‘customers’ who rarely gets their Value For Money (VFM).

The impact of these problems- The gap between ‘Theory’ and ‘Practical’ increases in the educated minds. The theory fails to get implemented in the real life and it has been seen, gradually, people tend to forget the theory which they learnt in the former stages of life, just because there is no implementation of that theory in their life. The way we are taught, are mostly with the objective of finishing up the syllabus before the deadline, and once the syllabus is finished, 99% responsibility of the teachers seems to get over. Teachers hardly encourage innovative / stupid questions from the side of the students. Most of them love teaching walls and pillars. These create a vacuum in your understandings. Students tend to forget what they have learnt in class 8 when they go to class 9/10, since, there is hardly any system of revision or repetition of the old concepts in the new one. Students feel shy/fear to ask questions as because they often get humiliated when they ask some silly/stupid questions. This demoralises them and often the students lose their lustre in the later stages of his/her life. Students remain in dark about what are happening all around that world. And Current Affairs are generally considered as ‘not their business ’. Even, when a student reads a newspaper, he is mocked and asked- Is it in the syllabus? ’. This discourages the student to continue with it. When a teacher fails to bring the interest of the students in his/her subject, the students feel disinterested and murmurs, disturbance are evident. This is actually a failure on the teachers' part and the teacher should try to rectify it, instead of punishing the students for this. Learning stuff, which the students will not need in his latter stage of life and wants to pursue something completely different, makes the student stressful, hyper-tense, and give suicidal feeling in some cases. Parents, students often end up choosing a foolish and irrational career option, without analysing the strength and weaknesses and most importantly the interest. This fails the student to show his/her true potential. Students at the later stage loose trust on the school authorities and the bonding between the student and the teacher weaken because of this ‘Business Motive’.

Reforms which should be done- Have you seen winds blowing like a wild tiger? It destroys, breaks almost everything, the lights, the poles, the shops which were not repaired for years are just destroyed. Then all the things are rebuilt. Destruction has a positive side. If today the education system is being destroyed by the wind, tomorrow the architect will design it and the mason will build it, after taking the lesson from the past. As I have agreed, and many notable and renowned personalities have suggested, in the 12 years of schooling, there should be a field of specialisation for the students. Skill Development should be one of the priorities, a Practical approach to teaching is necessary. Students should not be taught how many soldiers were killed in the battle but, must be taught, why actually the soldiers were trying to kill each other?    Projects should be given, projects where students will get an opportunity to link theory with practical and present their own ideas with innovative theories of their own creation. Most innovative theories and the most academically rich project should be felicitated with awards from the side of the school. The students should be taught various dimensions to solve problems (or sums), practical and current cases, rational thinking, and most importantly a disciplined way of communication and proper use of language. Parents and students should be given a session of career counselling at class 10 (before choosing specialised stream), by highly professional and unbiased people. I have seen people come to advertise their universities in the name of ‘career counselling’ and so I would like to emphasis on the word ‘unbiased’. And, there should be a body to monitor the activities of the schools in the nation, irrespective of boards, about their business policies, relation with the boards, students feedback cell, how promptly they work on the complaints of the students, the system of teacher/staff recruitment, the teacher turnover ratio, the conduct of the Management Committee/ Trust etc. I personally feel, in every school, there should be a ‘Students’ feedback/complaint cell’ and within a fixed period the issues or complaints raised by the students must be solved. However, disciplined and unnecessary demands of students remain a subject of debate.

P.S- It should be noted that the above Article is based on experience, critical observation, investigation and enquiry. And I accept exceptions do exist but, generally the situation is what stated above, or worse than that in some places.

Analysis of Beef-Ban Debate-

I would like to analyze the arguments made in for and against of Beef Ban debate, before presenting my views. It is better to think and analyze the points instead of aggressively debating over the issue

For the Motion- Arguments

1) Scientific research reveals that meat of cow/bull MAY turn out to be a serious health hazard, in addition cattle meat industry is a serious threat to the environment.
Though, science can't certainly say that every beef eaters will suffer from a health hazard caused by beef consumption and so the word MAY has been used.
2)Cow if not raised for beef, can be used as a great asset for the farmers, cow gives milk ,manure and also product of Ayurvedic value.
Now, here it has been assumed that all the cows can be used by the farmers as an assets for the entire life of the cow, so there is no need to abandon the cow or sell it for slaughtering.
3) Cow is holy for Hindus and it hurts the religious sentiments by of the Hindus when the cow is eaten by other people as beef.
(Probably, this is the weakest argument) Hindus worship cows, even rats (carrier of lord Ganesha), Owls, banana tree (Regarded as wife of lord Ganesha), Snakes, etc. So as per this argument, rat killing, selling of rat poison, rat trappers, banana, selling of any product of banana tree, harming Owl, will also hurt the Hindus sentiments. But, ironically, the Hindus sentiments are not hurt by all these, but, it is only in case of 'Cow'. As per this logic, any product harming religious sentiments should be banned, and it is practically impossible because, then, eventually, we will see that 99.9% products have been banned.
4) Cows are tortured, skinned, sometimes even when they are alive. So, beef should be banned on grounds of animal cruelty.
Here, in this argument, imposing ban is a wrong solution to eradicate cruelty on cows. If you are against the cruelty done before killing them for beef, then try to bring a law banning the cruelty and not banning beef.
Against the motion- Arguments
1) Banning Beef will create unemployment, and Govt. shouldn't ban beef unless they provide the people with alternative employments.
If, you remember, Arun Jaitlely used this similar argument justifying why the govt is not going to ban tobacco products.
2) Right to choose their own food- not hurting any religious sentiments-
Well, this argument seems to be a bit logical. In a democratic country, when meats are available, you have every right to choose which meat you are going to eat and which you are not. If x meat hurts your religion, don't eat x, eat y. And, if u regard cow as god, you don't eat beef, but, why should other's give up eating beef for your choice of 'god'. It is like, you will fast for 14 days and you are telling others/or the govt to ban all food products, because, or else it will hurt your sentiments of fasting.
3) Export of Beef Continues-
This argument raises a good question, why then export of beef continues to operate ? Is it not hurting the hindu's sentiments ? hindu's sentiments are only hurt when beef is sold in the domestic market ?
4) Beef is a source of cheap protein --
Though there are certain reasons for beef being cheap, but, the fact is that beef is cheap and banning it will surely affect the people's health & income.
5) " When cows grow old or for some other reason can no longer give milk they are often driven out and left to fend for themselves. I have seen cows eating filth and garbage by the side of roads. I have seen cows so thin that their ribs are protruding out of their flesh. If cows are made to starve is that also not cow slaughter? But nobody is bothered about that. " --Markandey Katju
So people are hypocrites ? At one side they want beef ban to protect their religious sentiments and on the other, they want to drink the milk of cow, without allowing the calf to drink her mother's milk, without thinking that the cow will be a liability for the farmer when it will loose it's ability to produce milk, and will be abandoned by the farmer.

6) If eating beef is hurting religious sentiments of Hindus then why also the government is not banning products which are made by the skin of cow ?
This argument is trying to expose the dual nature of government, alike the argument of beef export.Today most leather is made of cattle skin but many exceptions exist.Though, the argument is not so strong, because, skin of cow is used after the cow dies, and the cow is not killed for leather. But, if hindus really worship cow then, i guess, they would like to promote cremation for a dead cow following all the rituals, so that the soul of the holy cow rest in peace. Is it done ?

My Personal Stand --
I have tried to present all the possible arguments above.
Well, I want to ask you why tobacco is not banned ?
There must be some reasons. Our is a welfare state and we enact and implement policies for the welfare of the society. Scientifically, tobacco MAY cause cancer and lead to death. But, no one can say with certainty that every smoker will die out of cancer. Similarly, no one say with certainty that eating beef will be fatal. And if person X eats beef, it won't be a threat to the entire community. It's Mr X's personal choice.
There are people who are making religion a issue. But, being Hindu and Being Muslim, now a days actually doesn't affect our food choice. There are many Hindus who prefer eating beef, and there are many Muslims who don't eat beef (And I personally know them, i am not stating it merely for the debate). If you like eating beef and can afford it, then go for it, not an issue.
Now, Govt is imposing beef ban in selective states (and not all), Govt is promoting beef exports, and this clearly exposing the dual nature of Govt.
From childhood the Hindu children have been taught, cow is our mother, we worship cow, for us even uttering the word 'beef meat' is like a sin (forget about eating). And there are many obedient children who just like to follow anything blindly, and so i don't blame them. And on other side, there are many who have later realized that how irrational this notion is.
People eat beef, because, they like it, can afford it. They don't eat it for hurting anyone's religious sentiments. People of all the religious communities need to be broad minded and accept the choice of others, and shouldn't try to impose their believes, customs, food habits in the entire nation, for the entire population, with compulsion.

And, if I may say so, it is absurd and cruel to say that - 'We consider cow as our mother because it gives us milk and many benefits' -- because, it shows that Hindus  worship cows as because, it gives them benefit, or else they wouldn't have worshiped that domestic animal. It's just for the selfish motive.

The Lost Guy (Gai), VIKAS

Kamla, is a mother of 2, an illiterate, poverty stricken woman who stays in a village of West Bengal.Few months ago, a heart breaking incident happened with Kamla and I am about to narrate the incident briefly.

Kamla glanced at the watch, it was already 11:00 pm, her kids were asleep. and she went to bed after having a look of the backyard, at the the only cow she had, ensuring that everything was fine.
After Kamla woke up she was shocked to find one of her family member, Vikas, missing. She immediately went to the police station to lodge a missing report. She reached the police station and the conversation was as follows :
Kamla (sobbing): Our Vikas is missing from today morning and we want you to find Vikas
Inspector : Name ?
Kamla : Kamla
Inspector: Uff! Not yours', name of the missing guy
Kamla: Vikas
Inspector: Vikas what ? And tell me in details about the guy
Kamla: Only Vikas. And Vikas is not a guy, she is she (female). She is White in colur, with black patches, has two grey colour horns, ...........(Interrupted by the Inspector)
Inspector: What ? What nonsense ? who is this Vikas ? Not a human or what ? Wasting our time ? Go get out !
Kamla (Sobbing again) : No, please, I want my Vikas. Vikas is name of my cow, probably she has been abducted by Chohan Bhagwat, I have heard that they are abducting cows from this area and selling to Gamit Shah.

Inspector: Oh I see, but, you know, we deal with human beings and not animals. Who is this Chohan Bhagwat ?
Kamla : Chohan Bhagwat, he is head of CSS (Cow Seva Sangh) And they abduct cows and export them as 'beef meat'.
Inspector: Hmm.. It seems to be a big Gau-Mata Scam. I suggest you to approach Mr. Harendra Nodi. Or better complain to Monia Kandhi
Kamla : I want my Vikas, I will do everything.
Kamla Went by the streets shouting madly and disturbing the people by her words -
"Vikas Missing! Vikas Missing! Vikas Missing! "
After 2 days, Harendra Nodi came near Kamla Devi's village for a rally. Kamla Devi attended it, hoping to complain Harendra Nodi about the missing case of Vikas. Harendra Nodi at his speech (in Hindi) mentioned the name Vikas, though Kamla Devi failed to understand each and every word, but, she became enthusiastic after hearing that Harendra Nodi is going to bring Vikas.

After 6 months.............

Harendra Nodi became the head of CSS and failed to bring Vikas completely. And Kamla Devi failed to consume this heart-breaking incident, went to delhi to find Vikas (As Harendra Nodi used to stay in Delhi) & she became mentally sick and eventually turned into an insane person. Now, she, with her body without soul, everyday, madly, goes around 7 RCR to get hold of Harendra Nodi and break his nose for not giving her, her lost Vikas.

DARJEELING ; THE CALL OF NATURE

Living on this beautiful earth, everybody has the zeal to explore it to the fullest. The lap of nature, the beauty, when the early sun rays kisses the mountain peaks, the silvery water flows, making its way over and under the rocks, the trekking experiences, with mountains at one side and rocky paths with flowing rivers on other side, will make your tour a perfect natural experience. And you can be served with all these in none other but, Darjeeling.
Darjeeling is a town in Indian state of West Bengal, making the state proud for its qualities, which nature has bestowed upon her. It is located in Mahabharat Range or lesser Himalaya at an elevation of 7,100 ft. Darjeeling is famous for its tea industry and Himalayan railway. The tea Industry is life of Darjeeling. It has not only helped to attract tourists but, also helped India in making a place into the world tea market. The soil, the climatic condition, the sloping hills make Darjeeling a perfect place for this type of tea plantation, which can’t be found in any part of the world. The tea plantation, tea gardens is just what the tourists don’t want to miss. Then, the Himalayan Railway is another heritage which is the proud of Darjeeling. It is a UNESCO world heritage site. The tracks lay down between the hilly sites, rocky paths, so skilfully, makes it eye catching and eagerness in the heart grows to feel the beauty and miracle which nature shows here among the thousands of people. The town, Darjeeling, is the headquarter of Darjeeling district, which has partial autonomous status within the state of West Bengal. Many buildings of British architecture can be found here. Apart from this, the Tibetan influence is very noticeable in the monasteries. Darjeeling has many British style public schools which attract many students from India and neighboring countries. The geographical, historical, and diverse culture which exists in Darjeeling makes it a unique tourist destination. The varied culture offers the tourists with an opportunity to visit the temples, churches which are dew drops on the leaves, when they appear behind the mist, between the blue hills and green grass lands.
Knowing the history of the place before visiting, makes the tour much more realistic and brings a pure sense. It was around 19th century when the hilly areas of Darjeeling was controlled by kingdom of Sikkim, while the plains around Siliguri were occupied by the kingdom of Nepal. The Chogyal of Sikkim engaged with war against Gorkhas of Nepal. History has witnessed wars among several groups. Later, the British decided to build sanatorium here, for their soldiers. Darjeeling was at that time also an attracted place for everyone. And her beauty and natural climate made her an important hub. During the British Raj, Darjeeling’s temperate climate led to its development as a hill station for the British residents seeking to escape the summer heat of the plains. Arthur Campbell and Lieutenant Robert Napier were responsible for establishing a hill station here. This attracted immigrants to cultivate slopes and stimulate trades and this led to increase in the population of Darjeeling. At that time, first road was set up, a military depot was built, and the town became a municipality. At this time, many changes took place, commercial cultivation in the district began, Darjeeling became formal summer capital of Bengal Presidency, construction of schools and welfare centers for the British residents started, laying the foundation of Darjeeling as a centre of education. The history of Darjeeling contributes much, in what we see today Darjeeling as.
The specialty which you will get in Darjeeling is the diverse and varied culture, which exists among the masses. In which ever part you reside, visiting to Darjeeling not only gives you an idea about any single culture but, it is about many cultures. By visiting Darjeeling you get an opportunity to hear languages such as, Nepali, Hindi, Bengali and English. Religions such as, Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity are prevalent. Along with all these wonders, you will also get an opportunity to taste variety of dishes. I am sure that by all this dishes, your taste buds will be pleased. Some of the dishes are, Momo, Thupkas, Shaphalay, Aludum, Tibetan Tea, Tongba. As Darjeeling is resided by wide variety of people, it also makes a ground for celebrating diverse kind of festivals. Durga Puja, Diwali, Saraswati Puja and Shivratri etc. The Lepchas and Bhutias celebrate the New Year in January, while the Tibetans have their Devil Dances to celebrate their New Year in their monasteries from the last week of February to March. The snake or dragon dances curl though the streets, as there in the Chinese tradition. In mid-June, processions celebrate the birthday of his Holiness, The Dalai Lama. The tourists visiting here will not only witness the spectacular sight of nature but, the diversity which still exists in such a magnitude will make the experience incredible.

Along with all these, sometimes nature plays havoc. The highest rainfall occurs in July. The heavy and concentrated rainfall that is experienced in the region, aggravated by deforestation and haphazard planning, often causes devastating landslides, leading to loss of life and property. But, in spite of all these havoc, Darjeeling proves to be a heaven with all this multi-qualities with diverse human beings residing in the same place. The economy of Darjeeling is mostly contributed by tourism and the tea industry. The internationally reputed and recognized tea of Darjeeling is produced approximately 9,000,000 Kilograms every year and is 7% of India’s tea output. Beside the tea the most widely cultivated crops include maize, millets, paddy, cardamom, potato and ginger. And the next important thing in Darjeeling is tourism; it is the only location in eastern India that witnesses large numbers of foreign tourists. It is also popular film destination of Tollywood, as well as, Bollywood. The recently produced movie Baarfi of bollywood was also shot here. The toy train of Darjeeling is very famous among the tourists. It is among the few steam engines which are still being operated in India. The handicraft industry in Darjeeling is equally famous. The winter clothes are often purchased by the visitors. The economy of Darjeeling aggravates the zeal of visiting the place and to feel the greenery of the land, the shower of the mists, the touch of the sunrise coming, after touching the peak of the hills, which will make the tour just amazing.
After getting the description of the heavenly place, Darjeeling, you might be anxious to have a visit to Darjeeling. But, hold your breath, Darjeeling is not only about these but, it has many more spectacular sites for you. Among the major tourist attraction, Tiger Hill stands at the first in the queue. Tiger Hill is the summit of Ghoom, the highest railway station in the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. And when the sun kisses the peak of Tiger Hill, you may faint after seeing the beauty the nature has bestowed, your love for nature may increase at a double rate. But, then also you have to hold your breath, because, Darjeeling has many more things for you. Visit Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park. It is a 67.56 acre zoo. It is the largest high altitude zoo in India.
Then comes Batasia Loop. It is a spiral railway created to lower the gradient of ascent of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. And when you are spell bound after seeing all these, then comes, Peace Pagoda. It is one of the Peace Pagodas designed to provide a focus for people of all races and creeds to unite them in their search for world peace. Mirik is just another example of Darjeeling’s nature. Mirik is a picturesque tourist spot nestled in the serene hills of Darjeeling. The name ‘Mirik’ has a interesting history. There is a Lepcha word Mir-Yok meaning “place burnt by fire”. Now coming to the villages of Darjeeling, we have, Samsing in the Malbazar subdivision of Jalpaiguri district, Suntalekhola in the Darjeeling distirct. There is a Bhutia Busty Monastery, which is a Buddhist monastery located in Tongsong. It belongs to the Red Sect of Buddhist Lamas. Kangchenjunga is the one which no tourist wants to miss. Their are some interesting myths about it. It is said that the area around Kagchenjunga is home to a mountain demon. A British geologist spotted a bipedal creature which he asked the locals about, who referred to it as the Demon. Then comes the Rock Garden, which you must visit to go more close to the nature. It is at Chunnu Summer Falls and Ganga Maya Park. It is situated about 10 Kilometres from Darjeeling. While travelling to the Rock Garden along the hill cart road, one has to turn right, well before reaching Ghum. The road descends rapidly into the valley. With sharp bends all the way, there are scenic views at many points. Tea gardens dot the hill slopes. And like these, there are many such places which have the capability of making you amazed and will take you to a another world.
After reading all these, I am sure, that if you are a nature lover and want to lie on the lap of the nature and enjoy the peaks of hills, the softness of mists, you are going to visit Darjeeling again and again. You can take the help of travel agencies, so that your process becomes simpler and you can efficiently enjoy the love for the nature. Or, if you have the zeal to enjoy nature all alone and to have an individual experience of all things, then you can visit all alone to the heaven in West Bengal. Darjeeling can be reached by the 88km long Darjeeling Himalayan Railway from New Jalpaiguri, or by National Highway 55, from Siliguri, 77km. Bus services and hired vehicles connect Darjeeling with Siliguri and Darjeeling has road connection with Bagdogra, Gangtok and Kathmandu and the neighbouring towns of Kurseong and Kalimpong. However, road and railway communication often get disrupted in the monsoon because of landslides. The nearest airport is Bagdora Airport, located 90km from Darjeeling. Within the town people usually transverse by walking. Two wheelers and taxis are available for travelling short distances. The Darjeeling rope way which was closed in 2003, finally opened again in February 2012. Now you may think, when should you visit Darjeeling? Depends on what and how you want to enjoy the nature. Most visitors target the glorious and spectacular kanchenjunga in a temperate weather. Many others like to feel the soothing winter in the hills and the occasional snow fall. Many even love the monsoon and play of the mists. And some lovers just want to feel the hills when there are no one, all alone, wants the hug of the nature.
I am sure that you are now ready to pack your bag, literally. The nature is calling you. The mountains are waiting, the momos and thupkas are just awesome for your taste buds, the toy train, the paradise, the tea gardens, the beautiful serene is what the life needs, to know its real meaning. The nature truly shows herself in Darjeeling. She shows the beauty which she can provide for your deserted heart. Set your minds, my friends and get ready, you have received the “call of the nature”.

TEEN YEARS ARE FUN YEARS

“LIVE AS LONG AS YOU MAY, THE FIRST TWENTY YEARS ARE THE LONGEST HALF OF YOUR LIFE”
BEGINNING TO REALIZE THAT LIFE IS NOT SO FUN AS IT SEEMS TO BE, STRUGGLE IS UNIVERSAL PHENOMENON TO BE AT SUMMIT, FRIENDS ARE NOT THE ONE WHO WILL REMAIN THROUGH OUT OUR LIFE, ALL THIS COMES WHEN WE ARE LATE TEENS OR HAVE PASSED OUR TEENS. ALL ARE OPPOSITE, AND WE POSSESS THE QUALITY TO MAKE THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN, RUN THE CLOCK BACKWARD, MAKE 24HRS. AS 48HRS, MAKE THE SUN RUN REVOLVE ROUND THE WORLD, MAKE EVEN THE WINTER DAYS A WARM PARTY TIME, ARE ALL THE FANTASIES WE MAKE IN THE EARLY TEEN YEARS. TEEN IS A STAGE OF LIFE. AND INDEED, EACH STAGE HAS ITS OWN SIGNIFICANCE. UNLESS, WE FLY WITH OUR FALSE WINGS AND FALL ON THE GROUND, WE WILL NOT REALIZE HOW HARD THE GROUND IS AND ACTUALLY THE WINGS ARE FAKE.
TEEN YEARS ARE REALLY THE FUN YEARS AND WHAT WE CALL AS ‘MASTI’, ‘MASTI’AND ‘MASTI’. KNOWING THE NEED OF EVERYTHING BUT, THE VALUE OF NOTHING IS SOMETHING STRANGE. IT STARTS WHEN WE ARE NEITHER A CHILD NOR AN ADULT. NO NEED TO BE SILLY LIKE A CHILD OR SERIOUS LIKE AN ADULT. POSSESSING THE CAREFREE LOOK AND NOT BOTHERING ABOUT ANYONE BUT, INDEED, FRIENDS ARE SUPREME.ENJOYMENT ,IS ALL IN TEENS. PARTING THE ENJOYMENT WITH FRIENDS MAKES IT x100 TIMES. INDEED, WE ARE THE FOOLS,IN THIS 14 AND 16 OR 18. WE HARDLY THINK ABOUT OUR FUTURE AND MAY BE, THAT MAKES IT A GALA TIME. THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE SUCKS, INDEED. BUNKING CLASSES, WATCHING FIRST DAY FIRST SHOW WITH FRIENDS, REALIZING FRIENDS UNHAPPINESS AND ASSURING “MAIN HOO NA”, TEASING FRIENDS, HARASSING NEIGHBORS ALONG WITH FRIENDS, ARE SOME OF THE OCCURRENCE IN TEEN YEARS.
PERHAPS, TEENS ON THE OTHER SIDE FACES LOTS OF PROBLEMS. THE MAJOR PROBLEM (I HAVE OBSERVED) IS ABOUT UNDERSTANDING. IT IS AN AGE WHEN, IF YOU BEHAVE IN A TOO CHILDISH MANNER, YOU WILL BE CRITICIZED- “DON’T BEHAVE LIKE A CHILD!” AND IF YOU BEHAVE LIKE A GROWN UP, YOU WILL BE PRESSED DOWN- “WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOURSELF? YOU ARE NOT EVEN 18 YET! OK!”, THEY ARE OFTEN MISUNDERSTOOD. THEY HAVE SUCH GRAVE PROBLEMS AND MAJOR ISSUES AMONG THEM THAT THEY CAN’T SHARE THEM WITH THE ADULTS TO GET A SOLUTION AND THAT CREATES A MAJOR PROBLEM. THIS IS AN AGE WHERE THE WAY YOU BEHAVE CAN EITHER MAKE YOUR LIFE OR RUIN IT COMPLETELY. INDEED, A DANGEROUS PHASE OF LIFE.
IT HAS BEEN SEEN THAT TEACHERS (MAJORITY OF THEM) ARE ALSO NOT SO COMPETENT TO MOLD THEM AT THIS STAGE AND DEVIATE THEM TO THE RIGHT PATH.
WHAT CAN BE DONE IS, ESPECIALLY SEMINARS, CONFERENCES CAN BE ORGANISED ANNUALLY IN SCHOOLS WHERE THEY WILL BE TAUGHT ABOUT THE REALISTIC NATURE OF LIFE AND THE TEACHERS WILL BE TRAINED HOW TO TAKE CORRECTIVE MEASURES WHEN A STUDENT IS DIVERTED IN A NEGATIVE PATH. INNOVATIVE MEASURES CAN BE IMPLEMENTED AND, EVERY THING CAN’T BE ORDERED BY BOARD RATHER, SCHOOLS SHOULD TAKE THIS INITIATIVE.

VALUE OF HONESTY

“HONESTY IS PRAISED AND LEFT TO SHIVER”
IT SEEMS THAT DECADES HAVE PASSED SINCE, WE HAVE FORGOT THE IMPORTANCE OF HONESTY.LET’S RECALL THE OLD PROVERB “HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY”. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW AND REALIZED THIS LINE ? FOR MOST OF YOU, I GUESS IT’S A LONG TIME. WE WERE USED TO BE TAUGHT IN THE PRIMARY LEVEL, BOTH IN SCHOOLS AND HOMES THAT HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS LINE, TO SURVIVE IN THIS WORLD, PEACEFULLY AND HOW IT WIL HELP THE NATION TO PROGRESS IN ALL FIELDS. SURVIVING AND LIVING WITH HONESTY IS, DOING JUSTICE WITH YOURSELF, AS WELL AS WITH OTHERS. EACH AND EVERY PEOPLE GETS WHAT HE DESERVES AND THERE IS NO
BIASED ONE, NO ONE GETS DEMORALIZED BY SOMEONE’S BIASED DECISION, GUILT GETS PUNISHMENT AND TRUTH GETS IT’S REWARD. THIS BECOMES A WORLD OF PURE EQUALITY.
HONESTY IN ALL FIELDS, TRUTH IN ALL FIELDS, ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SUSTAIN WITHOUT HONEST PEOPLE AND WHEN THE PEOPLE’S BASIC NEEDS ARE UNDER THREAT. FOR INSTANCE, WHEN YOU ARE STARVING FOR TWO DAYS AND YOU DON’T HAVE MONEY, HONESTY CAN’T FILL YOUR STOMACH BUT, BREAD AND BUTTER CAN. IN THAT CASE YOU ARE BOUND TO PROCURE MONEY WHICH WILL ENABLE YOU TO BUY FOOD OR FOOD DIRECTLY, BY HOOK OR CROOK. THIS IS TO BE DONE FOR THE SAKE OF THE GENERAL LAWS OF NATURE. IN A COUNTRY, WHEN ALL THE PEOPLE’S BASIC NEEDS ARE FULFILLED, THEN ONLY THEY CAN BE GIVEN A LESSON ON “VALUE OF HONESTY” OR ELSE IT WOULD SOUND ABSURD.
IN INDIA WHERE THOUSANDS AND LAKHS OF PEOPLE LIVE UNDER POVERTY, HOW CAN SOMEONE TAKE A CLASS ON “HONESTY”, FOR THEM? UNLESS AND UNTIL 100% OF THE POPULATION ARE FREE FROM POVERTY AND THEIR BASIC NEEDS ARE SATISFIED, NO ONE CAN TEACH THE WHOLE COUNTRY 'HONESTY', UNDER ONE ROOF.
AFTER A LANDMARK VICTORY OF AAP, WITH 67 SEATS IN DELHI, PEOPLE ARE HOPING FOR A CORRUPTION FREE DELHI. IT CAN BE DONE, BUT, IT SHOULD NOT BE STARTED FROM THE BUREAUCRATS LEVEL RATHER, IT SHOULD BE STARTED FROM THE GRASS ROOT LEVEL IE. FROM SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, POLICE STATIONS, CLERICAL JOBS ETC.
LET THERE BE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL LEVEL – “MORAL EDUCATION”, DON’T RESTRICT IT TILL PRIMARILY LEVEL BUT, TEACH THE TEENS ALSO. INCLUDE CO-CIRCULAR ACTIVITIES RELATING TO THESE. TEACH THE STUDENTS HOW THEY CAN PRACTICE HONESTY IN THEIR REAL LIFE, CREATE SITUATIONS WHERE THEY WILL BE PROVOKED TO GIVE UP THEIR HONESTY AND THAT WILL BE THEIR TEST. GIVE THEM MARKS ON IT. IN THIS WAY, WE CAN IMPROVE THE MIND OF THE SCHOOL CHILDREN, WHO WILL TAKE THE OFFICIAL POSTS IN FUTURE.
ONLY A STRONG DETERMINATION, A GENTLE SENSE OF PATRIOTISM WILL MAKE YOU AN HONEST CITIZEN OF INDIA. YOU ,YOURSELF, BEING AN HONEST PERSON CAN ACT AS AN EXAMPLE FOR YOUR BROTHER, SISTER, CHILD, FRIEND AND FOR ANY OF YOUR ACQUAINTANCE.
ABOVE ALL HOW CAN WE FORGET “SATYAMEVA JAYATE”

PUB CULTURE

AS THE WORLD HAS BEEN ON THE WAY OF MODERNIZATION, IT GAVE BIRTH TO SO MANY GOOD AND BAD THINGS. 'PUB' IS ONE OF THEM. NOW, YOU VISIT ANY DEVELOPED COUNTRY OR ANY METROPOLITAN CITY, YOU CAN SEE PUBS, DOUBTLESS, ON EVERY WAY YOU GO. IT IS NOTHING BUT, THE OUTCOME OF ‘AGGRESSIVE MODERNIZATION WITHOUT PROPER EDUCATION’.
PUB/ TAVERN IS CONSIDERED AS A PLACE OF ENJOYMENT. THIS ATTRACTS ESPECIALLY YOUTHS, AS THEY ARE SO CALLED 'PLEASURE SEEKERS'. WHAT MOST OFTEN HAPPENS IS, THEY GET THEMSELVES INTOXICATED AND IN THEIR UNCONSCIOUS STATE OF MIND, THEY DO ALL KIND OF UNSOCIAL ACTIVITIES, INVOLVE THEMSELVES INTO SCUFFLES. AS THE PUBS ARE OPENED TILL DARKNESS AND THEN, THE YOUTHS WHILE RETURNING THEIR ABODE, DRIVE THEIR VEHICLES IN THAT VERY STATE OF MIND, THIS HELPS INDIA TO BE A SUPERB ACCIDENTAL HUB AT NIGHT.HENCE, THEY BECAME A THREAT TO THE SOCIETY, AS A WHOLE.
WHEREAS, PUBS ALSO PROVIDES SOME PEOPLE WITH LIVELIHOOD. THE PUB OWNERS, THE PUB SINGERS, THE PUB STAFFS, THE ALCOHOL SUPPLIERS AND MANY OTHERS, INDIRECTLY, GETS EMPLOYMENT IN THE ECONOMY. PUBS HELP PEOPLE TO DISCHARGE THEIR FATIGUE AND HELPS TO GET UNPERTURBED.
THOUGH THERE ARE CERTAIN POSITIVE SIDES OF PUB BUT, IN NUMBER, IT IS LESS THAN THE NEGATIVE SIDES IT HAVE.
YOUTHS ARE LESS AWARE ABOUT THIS AND CERTAINLY THEY DON’T BOTHER TO KNOW THIS, ACCORDINGLY TO THEM, PUBS ACT AS A MODERN DAY VAGUE AND BY VISITING PUBS THEY CONSIDER THEMSELVES AS A MODERN LAD. THE ONE WHO DOESN'T GO TO PUB, FACES HUMILIATIONS FROM OTHER MATES AND HERE IT PLAYS A PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT.
CERTAINLY, AS A REMEDY, GOVERNMENT SHOULD INTERVENE AND TRY TO ERADICATE THIS CULT.AS IT HAS BEEN SEEN THAT PUBS DO NO GOOD AND IT CAUSES ONLY HARM TO THE SOCIETY. GOVERNMENT SHOULD PUT A BAN ON TRADING OF ALCOHOLS, WHICH ACTS AS BACKBONE OF PUBS OR SHOULD CLOSE DOWN THESE PUBS WHICH HAS BECOME A THREAT TO THE SOCIETY. THIS STEP WOULD CERTAINLY REDUCE INTOXICATION, UP TO SOME EXTENT, PROMOTE HEALTHY LIVING AND WILL REDUCE ROAD ACCIDENTS, UP TO SOME EXTENT.

NIGHT BEFORE EXAM

“IN EXAMINATION THOSE WHO DON’T WISH TO KNOW ASK QUESTIONS OF THOSE WHO CAN’T TELL”
WE ALL FACE MANY CHALLENGES IN LIFE. CAN YOU SAY HOW MANY AGGREGATE NUMBER OF EXAMS A GUY GIVES, WHEN HE IS 18+. CERTAINLY, AN IMPRESSIVE FIGURE. ON AN AVERAGE 5 EXAMS PER CLASS. A 18+ GUY WILL GIVE (5X12)60 EXAMS. WITH 60 EXAMS WE CARRY 60 EXPERIENCE OF THE “NIGHT BEFORE EXAM”. THAT NIGHT IS LITTLE DIFFERENT. IN THAT NIGHT WE WANT TO STAY AWAKE, THAT NIGHT WE THINK ABOUT TOMORROW, THAT NIGHT WE WAIT OR NEGLECT THE SUN TO ARISE. I HAVE TRIED TO EXPRESS OUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THAT 60 NIGHTS.
THE DAY ARRIVES SLOWLY AND OFTEN, IN AN UNNOTICEABLE MANNER. AT ONCE, THE JOYS AND LAUGHTER SEEMS TO VANISH AND THE MIND GETS HEATED UP AND STARTS TO WORK HARDER , AS NEVER BEFORE. IS IT THE INDUCEMENT WE GET BY YOUR EXAMS ? IS THIS THE 'INSPIRATION' EXAM PROVIDES US ? OR, IS IT THE REFLECTION OF OUR FAULTS WE COMMIT THROUGH OUT THE YEAR ?
24 HR.S A DAY. IS ALL THE DAYS REALLY OF 24 HOURS ? PROBABLY, YOU WILL THINK-- “WHAT A STUPID QUESTION IS THIS”-----TECHNICALLY, YES, IT IS 24 HOURS A DAY. BUT, THE FLOW OF TIME DEPENDS ON OUR MIND’S DESIRE TO UTILIZE THE SCARCE TIME OR DEMAND OF TIME BY OUR MIND. WHEN WE DEMAND TIME OR NEED TIME, IT PASSES FAST, 24 HRS. REDUCES TO 2-4 HRS. AND WHEN WE HAVE PLENTY OF IT, 24 HRS. REVERSES AS 42 HRS. THIS IS RELATIVITY OF TIME.
I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST YOU, PLEASE TRY TO RECALL THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR ANNUAL EXAMINATION. WHAT TO STUDY ? FROM WHERE TO START ? HOW TO START ? , PLAYS A TRACK IN YOUR MIND, UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXCEPTIONAL CHAP. WHEN YOU ARE CONFIDENT ABOUT YOUR PERFORMANCE, THEN TOO, A PIOUS STILLNESS SURROUNDS YOUR MIND, A CRAZE OF REVISING YOUR LESSONS, A BATTLE OF SUCCESS, BECOMING A BLUE-EYE-BOY AND ALL THAT.
BUT, PAUSE A BIT, THINK THRICE, IS THERE A HUMOUR PLAYING BEHIND THIS. A SINGLE EXAM, SAME ONE , BUT, 50 STUDENTS PREPARE IT IN 50 WAYS. 30% LIES IN THE CATEGORY OF 'EXCEPTIONAL' AND REST 70% , YOU KNOW THAT. NOW I CAN’T BELIEVE, BEING IN INDIA, IF U SAY THAT 100% ARE 'EXCEPTIONAL'. THE PARADOXICAL SITUATION PREVAILS IN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM, TO BE MORE SPECIFIC, IN THIS EXAMINATION SYSTEM.
I HAVE SEEN THAT PEOPLE STUDY DOUBLE THAN NORMAL IN THIS NIGHT, DURING EXAMS. WHAT A STRANGE POWER HE GETS. FROM WHERE THE HELL HE GETS THIS ENTHUSIASM IN BOOKS. AND THE CREDIT IS NOT OF “REVITAL”, MIND IT.
BUT, ON THE OTHER SIDE, I DISCOVERED THAT, THE POTENTIAL IN HIM, THAT HE HIDES FROM THE WORLD, THROUGH OUT THE YEAR. ALL INDIAN KIDS HAVE THIS POTENTIAL IN THEM, MAY BE THIS SHINES ON THIS NIGHT AND ARE SUPPRESSED BY AN UNKNOWN FORCE, BEFORE THEY CAN DEVISE A SHORT CIRCUIT . AMONG THAT 70%, ONLY 20% ARE ABLE TO CONVERT THEIR POTENTIAL INTO KINETIC. REST SPENDS THEIR LIVES IN, SOME TYPICAL INDIAN FIRMS, WELDING, AND BURNING DREAMS IN THE BLAST FURNACE.
HOPE THAT THIS ONE NIGHT IS REPLACED BY EVERY NIGHTS IN A STUDENTS LIFE. HOPE THAT STUDENTS’ ENTHUSIASM ARE NOT BEING DIED IN SOME BLAST FURNACES. HOPE THAT EXAM IS A TEST OF INTEREST OF THE CHILD, IT IS A TEST TO TEST WHAT HE KNOWS AND NOT A TEST TO TEST WHAT HE DOESN'T KNOW.

DREAMS CANNOT BE MORPHED INTO REALITY BY MAGIC

“THE INTERPRETATION OF DREAMS IS THE ROYAL ROAD TO A KNOWLEDGE OF THE UNCONSCIOUS ACTIVITIES OF THE MIND”
DREAMS, WE ALL KNOW HOW IMPORTANT AND DANGEROUS IT IS. UNLESS, WE POSSESS A DARING DREAM, OUR LIFE REMAINS IN UNIFORMITY AND WE COMPLETE OUR LIFE ALMOST DOING NOTHING, IF WE EXCLUDE ACCIDENT. ACCIDENT IS SOMETHING ELSE. WHEN WE BECAME SOMETHING WITHOUT EVEN THINKING ONCE THAT WE WILL BECOME THAT, IS ACCIDENT. HERE, WE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THAT; WE MISS THE TASTE OF SUCCESS AFTER EXTREME HARD WORK. AND SO I PERSONALLY BELIEVE IN REALISTIC DREAMS.
I CLASSIFY DREAMS AS DAY DREAMS AND REALISTIC DREAMS. DAY DREAMS ARE WHEN WE MAKE IMAGINATIONS AND TO MAKE THAT REAL WE DON’T DO ANYTHING OR IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE. AND REALISTIC DREAMS ARE WHEN WE MAKE AN IMAGINATION, FORMULATE STEPS TO TRANSFORM IT INTO REALITY AND START GOING ACCORDING TO THE STEPS. THIS TYPE OF DREAMS SHOULD BE FIRST TRANSFORMED INTO A WRITTEN DOWN PLAN AND THEN IMPLEMENTED.
THE MOST IMPORTANT TASK IS TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN DREAMS AND REALITY. THE BRIDGE WHICH CAN JOIN THIS TWO PERMANENTLY IS, HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION. NO MAGICAL SPELL WILL WORK HERE, AS BECAUSE, THE REALITY WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE HERE. SPENDING INFINITE TIRELESS NIGHTS, SACRIFICING GOSSIPS WITH FRIENDS, GIVING UP THE LEISURE TIME, WILL HELP A LOT. FOCUS IS THE MAIN THING HERE. WHEN ARJUNA WAS ASKED BY DRONACHARYA, WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO SEE WHEN HE WAS AIMING AT THE BIRD, HE REPLIED, THE BIRD’S EYE. NOTHING ELSE SHOULD BE VISIBLE AND SOLELY, FOCUSING ON THE DREAM WILL DEFINITELY LEAD TO SUCCESS.DREAMS SHOULD BE ACHIEVED STEP BY STEP AND NOT BY SKIPPING THE STEPS, SKIPPING MAY MAKE YOU FALL.
IN A COUNTRY LIKE INDIA, THERE ARE MANY WHO POSSESS THAT 'DAY DREAM'. FOR INSTANCE, SO MANY GIVE UP SCIENCE AFTER 10+2, GIVE UP IIT AND JOIN IIM (THOUGH BOTH ARE CREME DE LA CREME), GIVE UP B.COM AND PURSUE A COURSE IN LIBERAL ARTS. WHEN YOU DON’T PREPARE A STEP BY STEP PLAN WITH A RIGID DREAM, YOU DIVERT YOUR DREAMS TO SAVE YOURSELF.FOR INSTANCE, MANY PEOPLE TALK ABOUT BECOMING IAS, IPS , IFS VAGUELY, MOST OF THEM EVEN FAIL TO TELL THE FULL FORM, WHEN ASKED. THEY, WITHOUT KNOWING THE STEPS JUST MAKE VAGUE DREAM OR PICK ONE FROM THE SACK OF DREAMS.
PROBABLY, THIS HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE LACK MATURITY. AND I THINK, PEOPLE SHOULD BE GIVEN CAREER COUNSELING AT THE TIME WHEN THEY ARE ABOUT TO MATURE. THIS MAY BE A CHALLENGE FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE FIELD OF CAREER COUNSELLING. MOST OFTEN STUDENTS ARE TOLD ABOUT THE SALARY THEY CAN GET AFTER COMPLETING THEIR DEGREE COURSES. I DON’T THINK THIS AS A HEALTHY CAREER COUNSELLING. TEMPTING STUDENTS BY PAY SCALE OVERRULES THEIR PERSONAL FASCINATION AND DESIRE TO PURSUE A COURSE, UNLESS AND UNTIL, THERE IS A MAJOR CHANGE IN THE PROCESS STUDENTS GETS CAREER COUNSELLING, THIS PROBLEM WILL EXIST. TODAY INDIVIDUAL UNIVERSITIES DO THEIR PROMOTION BY VISITING VARIOUS SCHOOLS IN NAME OF CAREER COUNSELLING. IT IS REALLY UNFORTUNATE THAT PEOPLE SELL THEIR PROFESSIONAL ETHICS FOR MONEY. HOPE FOR BETTER TOMORROW.

WOMEN IN MODERN INDIA

“FRAILTY, THY NAME IS WOMAN”
THE WORLD TODAY, HAVE REALIZED THE SIGNIFICANCE OF WOMEN AND HAVE UNDERSTOOD THAT WOMEN ARE ALSO A PART OF HUMAN BEINGS. WOMEN CAN ALSO BE EFFICIENT AND VALUABLE HUMAN RESOURCE AND THEY HAVE PROVED IT FROM TIME TO TIME. AND SO, THE WORLD HAS DESIGNATED 8TH MARCH AS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY.
IN INDIA, WOMEN HAD FACED LOT OF ATROCITIES. AND IT’S EVIDENT FROM THE INDIAN HISTORY. FROM SATI DAHA PRATHA TO PURDHA CUSTOM, FROM CHILD MARRIAGE TO INACCESSIBILITY OF EDUCATION TO GIRL CHILD. THOUGH, THERE WERE CERTAIN REVOLUTIONARY WOMEN WHO DARED TO STAMP THERE FEET AND SAY, THAT, THEY ALSO HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE IN THIS WORLD WITH EQUAL DIGNITY AS THAT OF MEN. DURING THE BRITISH RULE THERE HAS BEEN CERTAIN CHANGES MADE IN THE STATUS OF WOMEN, IN THE INDIAN COMMUNITY. LAWS WERE AMENDED, LAWS WHICH PROHIBITED WOMEN FROM ENJOYING EQUAL RIGHTS AS THAT OF MEN, WERE REMOVED. SATI DAHA PRATHA WAS ABOLISHED, GIRL CHILD EDUCATION WAS STARTED, WIDOW REMARRIAGE BECAME LAWFUL AND BEHIND THIS THE CONTRIBUTION OF RAJA RAM MOHAN ROY, VIDYASAGAR CAN’T BE DENIED,
TODAY, AFTER 65 YEARS OF REPUBLIC WHEN WE CELEBRATE THE 66TH REPUBLIC DAY, IT’S A MATTER OF DISGRACE THAT OUR WOMEN COUNTERPART DOESN’T FEEL FREE IN A COUNTRY LIKE INDIA. THEY NEED TO THINK TWICE BEFORE GOING OUT OF HOUSE AT NIGHT, TRAVELING ALONE IN A PUBLIC BUS, STAYING ALONE IN HOUSE, ALLOWING GUEST TO ENTER WHEN SHE IS ALONE IN HOUSE, AND SHE NEEDS TO BE CAUTIOUS BEFORE TAKING EACH AND EVERY STEP IN THIS TYPE OF SOCIETY. IS IT THE FAULT OF OUR LEGAL SYSTEM OR THE EDUCATION WE RECEIVE? IT’S REALLY A MATTER OF REGRET, THAT OUR MANNERS HAVE GIVEN RISE TO THIS TYPE OF QUESTIONS IN OUR MIND .BEING STAYING IN A CIVILIZED SOCIETY WE FEEL SHAME TO TALK ABOUT ‘SEX’ BUT, DON’T WITHDRAW OUR SELF FROM WATCHING A SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MOVIE WITH OUR FRIENDS. IT’S A HIGH TIME TO REALIZE THAT SEX IS NOT A STIGMA BUT, IGNORANCE IS. ACCORDING TO ME, MOST OF THE CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN ARE ARISING DUE TO SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEMS AMONG PEOPLE IN THE SOCIETY. THE MORE YOU ARE IGNORANT OF OTHER SEX, GENDER, THE MORE YOU ARE MAKING THE OTHER SEX VULNERABLE. THOUGH, TODAY PARENTS ADMIT THEIR CHILDREN IN CO-ED SCHOOLS, IT DOESN’T MAKE THE MIND MATURE ENOUGH TO JUDGE AND UNDERSTAND, WHAT SHOULD BE THE UNIVERSAL RELATION BETWEEN THE OPPOSITE SEXES.
TODAY, WOMEN ARE MUCH MORE AWARE ABOUT THE LAWS OF EQUALITY AND THEY DARE TO CHOOSE ANY PROFESSION AND DARE TO DEFY THE GENERAL BACKDATED NORMS OF SOCIETY. AND SO WE GET TO SEE OUR FIRST WOMEN IPS – KIRAN BEDI, FIRST WOMEN TO LEAD FIRST INTER-SERVICE GUARD OF HONOUR- PUJA THAKUR, WOMEN SPORTS PERSON LIKE MARY KOM, SARITA DEVI AND WE ALSO HAVE WOMEN AS CHIEF MINISTER, UNION CABINET MINISTER, JUDGE, ADVOCATES, DOCTORS, IAS, IFS, AMBASSADORS ETC. TODAY, MOST OF THE WOMEN IN CITIES, APART FROM DOING TRADITIONAL HOUSEHOLD WORKS, THEY WORK OUTSIDE AS A SELF-EMPLOYED. ALONG WITH THIS, THERE ARE WOMEN WHO ARE AUTHORIZED ONLY TO WORK IN KITCHEN OR HOME, TO VEIL THEIR FACE ALMOST ALL THE TIME, CONSIDERED AS ONLY A HOUSE CARETAKER BUT, NOT A NATION BUILDER. WE CAN SEE THIS TYPE OF NEGATIVE SCENARIOS IN THE PLACES WHERE EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT LEVEL ARE NOT SO HIGH AND WOMEN ARE UNEDUCATED OR HALF-EDUCATED (SIMPLE GRADUATE). THIS TYPE OF WOMEN IS OFTEN BOUND TO WORK WHEN THEY FACE EXTREME FINANCIAL INSTABILITY. AND THEN THEY HAVE TO WORK AS A DAILY WAGE LABOUR OR PHYSICAL WORK, PERHAPS, BECAUSE OF BEING UNEDUCATED OR HALF EDUCATED OR LACK OF EMPLOYMENT. IT IS VIVIDLY EVIDENT IN RURAL INDIA AND SOME IN URBAN. ALONG WITH All THIS, CRIMES LIKE EVE TEASING, DOWRY, ACID ATTACK, AND RAPE ARE STRONGLY EVIDENT.
TO IMPROVE THE MAJOR CHALLENGES FACED BY WOMEN OF INDIA, TODAY, THERE SHOULD BE A VIBRANT ECONOMY WITH WOMEN CO-OPERATIVE SECTORS IN RURAL AS WELL AS IN URBAN SOCIETIES. ‘A+’ GRADE EDUCATION SHOULD BE PROVIDED SO THAT WOMEN GET EDUCATION EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY AND THE CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN CAN BE REDUCED. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT SEX EDUCATION CAN HELP TO DWINDLE CRIME, BUT PRIOR TO THAT, TEACHERS SHOULD BE GIVEN SPECIAL TRAINING, HOW TO TEACH THE SUBJECT MATTER OF “SEX EDUCATION’, OR ELSE IT WOULD HAVE A CATASTROPHIC RESULT. ESPECIALLY AWARENESS CAMPS , AND COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE OF ALL WOMEN IN THAT, CAN HELP TO DEVELOP THE ZEAL OF BECOMING EDUCATED AND TO GET RID OF THE ATROCITIES, ONE THING SHOULD BE KEPT IN MIND, THAT THE MORE YOU GET SPECIAL TREATMENT, RESERVATIONS, THE MORE YOU PROVE HOW WEAK YOU ARE, AND THAT WEAKNESS CAN MAKE YOU VULNERABLE. RESERVATION CAN NEVER BE A PERMANENT SOLUTION.
‘THE WORLD WILL CHANGE WITH TIME, BUT, THE SIGNIFICANCE OF WOMEN WILL REMAIN UNCHANGED, GENERATION AFTER GENERATION’

I HATE POLITICS! I HELP POLITICS!

“I HATE POLITICS”—YOU CAN SEE THIS PHRASE MOST OFTEN, IF YOU CHECK FACEBOOK PROFILES OF NEARLY TEN PEOPLE. THOUGH, THEY HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO EXPRESS THEIR OPINION, I AM NOT RESTRICTING IT, BUT, TRYING TO COUNTER IT JUST BY JUSTIFICATION.I HAVE ASKED MANY AND HAVE SOUGHT FOR JUSTIFYING THEIR SUCH NEGATIVE OPINION ABOUT POLITICS. BUT, UNFORTUNATELY, ALMOST EVERYONE PROVED THAT THE PHRASE IS IN VOGUE. BY WRITING IT, ALMOST, EVERYONE TRIES TO PROVE THAT THEY ARE SO CALLED CLEAN FIGURES, AS THEY ARE NEITHER DIRECTLY NOR INDIRECTLY RELATED WITH POLITICS OR POLITICAL SYSTEM. THEY CAN STUDY POL-SCIENCE UP-TO CLASS 10, AS THEY HAVE TO, THEY CAN TAKE HUMANITIES (AND POL-SCIENCE) IN 10+2, AS THEY DON’T GET THE OTHER OPTIONS. BUT, AT THE END OF THE DAY, THEY FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THE DIVINITY OF POLITICS. THEY REMAIN AN UNAWARE CITIZEN OF INDIA, IN RESPECT TO POLITICS. THEY DON’T KNOW HOW THE PM GETS ELECTED, HOW THE PRESIDENT GETS ELECTED, HOW CJI IS APPOINTED, HOW THEIR LIFE IS RELATED WITH POLITICS, THEY ONLY FEEL GOOD TO SAY THAT, POLITICS IS A “DRAIN” WHICH CAN NEVER BE TREATED BY THE STP.
PERHAPS, WE LIVE IN INDIAN SOCIETY, HOW CAN WE GET RID OF STUPIDITY? ITS COMMON THING IN OUR SOCIETY. WE ARE TAUGHT BY OUR PARENTS, THAT WE CAN BE DOCTOR, ENGINEER,CA, ICWA, LINGUIST, ADVOCATE, JUDGE BUT, NEVER A POLITICIAN . HOW MANY OF WE SEE DREAMS OF BECOMING PM OR PRESIDENT OR CM ? DO WE? MAY BE, BUT, VERY FEW. THIS MAY BE BECAUSE, THERE IS NO SUCH EDUCATIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIRED FOR HOLDING SUCH POSTS. BUT, PUBLIC , OPPOSITIONS, WILL POINT OUT, IF A MINISTER IS ONLY 12 PASS. PEOPLE DEMANDS EDUCATIONALLY QUALIFIED LEADERS BUT, THE CHAIR DON’T. AS THE TIME IS CHANGING, AN UNEDUCATED FELLOW CAN NEVER EVER BE A MINISTER; THIS IS THE TREND OF FUTURE. WHEN WE WILL BE TAUGHT THAT POLITICS IS NOT THE LAST RESORT OF SCOUNDRELS BUT, A SERVICE WHERE EDUCATED PEOPLE COME TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE SOCIETY, THAT DAY, LIKE PEOPLE, SEE DREAMS OF BECOMING DOCTORS, ENGINEERS, CA, ICWA, WILL ALSO SEE DREAMS TO ENTER INTO POLITICS AND TO RENDER THE NATIONAL SERVICE. TIME IS CHANGING; POLITICS IS HAVING A BROADER SENSE IN THE MIND OF GENERAL PUBLIC.
TODAY, WE ARE GLORIFIED TO WITNESS HOW THE EDUCATED PEOPLE ARE ENTERING INTO POLITICS. FORMER IPS OFFICER, KIRAN BEDI, AAP CHIEF ARVIND KEJRIWAL, BOTH ARE RAMON MAGSAYSAY AWARD WINNERS, MINISTERS, ARUN JAITLEY, HOLDS A LAW DEGREE AND MANY MORE ARE THERE.THEY ARE NOW THE ROLE MODELS OF SOME, INDEED, A MATTER TO BE PROUD OF.
BUT, IT CAN’T BE SAID THAT ONLY HOLDING EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS WILL MAKE YOU PRACTICE CLEAN POLITICS. VALUES ARE INDEED VERY NECESSARY. WE HAVE MAMATA BANERJEE, WB CM, HER CHOICE OF MINISTERS IN THE CABINET HAS COST HER, JAYLALITHA, FORMER TAMIL NADU CM, PAID HER PRICE. AND FROM ALL THESE FACTS WE CAN INFER THAT ONLY HOLDING DEGREES CAN’T MAKE A SYSTEM FREE FROM ALL THESE.
LET US COME TO THEM, THE “I HATE POLITICS” PEOPLE. THEY MIGHT HAVE UNDERSTOOD BY NOW THAT, LIKE ALL SERVICE, ALL PHASES OF LIFE, HERE ALSO WE HAVE BAD AND GOOD, AND FOR THAT YOU CAN’T DEDUCE THAT IT IS WORTHLESS. WE ARE ALL RELATED TO POLITICS. EVEN IF YOU HATE POLITICS, YOU CAN’T HELP. THEY TAKE THE DECISION, HOW WE WILL LIVE IN THE SOCIETY, HOW WILL OUR SOCIETY BE AND WE CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT AFTER 5 YEARS, WHEN WE FEEL THAT THEIR DECISION WERE NOT GOOD. YOU HAVE TO RECEIVE EDUCATION, STATE BOARDS, CBSE ETC. REGULATED ULTIMATELY BY GOVT., THE POLITICIANS, YOU HAVE TO AVAIL THE GOVT. SERVICES, FUNDED FROM THE GOVERNMENT TREASURY, YOU HAVE TO GIVE VOTE TO MAKE THE POLITICIANS FORM THE GOVERNMENT, FROM THIS POINT OF VIEW, YOU ARE HELPING THE POLITICIANS TO DO POLITICS, TO WIN YOUR VOTE. AND YOU CAN SAY HONESTLY, ‘I HELP POLITICS’.
FRIENDS. BROTHERS, SISTERS, WE ALL ARE RELATED TO OR, WITH, POLITICS. LIVING IN A DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY (INDIA), WE SHOULD REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT A GOOD POLITICS IS, TO BUILD OUR NATION, FOR OUR GROWTH, ECONOMICALLY AND SOCIALLY. A GOOD POLITICAL SENSE ENSURES US A HEALTHY LIVING, PROPERLY CHOOSING OUR LEADERS AND EVENTUALLY, WE ARE BENEFITED. NOW, IT'S UP-TO YOU, HOW WILL YOUR RATIONAL AND INTELLECTUAL MIND TAKE POLITICS AS.

INDIA'S DAUGHTER: THE REOPENED WOUND

“In societies where men are truly confident of their own worth, women are not merely tolerated but valued”

It was certainly unexpected that, after 2 yrs the wound will be reopened, the countrymen will again start discussing the brutal night, the government will be baffled, the legal system will look at the mirror and the parents will think about their daughters.December 16, 2012, was indeed a brutal night. But, who knows, there are many such nights passed by, in India, which are unrecorded, unnoticed and overlooked. The night when the horrifying nirbhaya rape case occurred, the people erupted in anger, which was kept in reserve for years. No police barricades, tears gases were strong enough to resist this people’s anger. The government was baffled, they tried to reason it out but, it was too late. It suddenly dawned upon the parents of India, that how unsafe their daughters are, in their motherland. The accused were arrested within few days, comparatively. And many turns took place in the case. Mukesh, one of the accused, committed suicide in the cell. Unfortunately, the case is yet to be closed with a final verdict. Almost 2 yrs. Have passed, since the dreams, the aspirations, of nirbhaya, was murdered by few idiot men. Now a British documentary, “India's daughter” by filmmaker leslee udwin, has reopened the wound, highlighting the attitude of the lawyers, rapists, her parents and the society. Indeed, the documentary features truth. The truth, which was unknown, the truth, which highlighted how cruel men can be, the truth, showing the crisis of humanity. It was a documentary of around 58 minutes but, it has left an imprint which will last more than 58 days. It showed the view point of rapists, the lawyers and also the society. The interview of Mukesh showed the general view of a rapist. Latter, the social media was flooded with a similar type of comments, like that of Mukesh, from the so-called most educated and spiritual persons. The chivalric attitude was exposed. After the night of 16th December, people were on the streets demanding justice, demanding accountability. The documentary showed, how easily crimes are committed, how easily they manage to get through the system, how reluctant officials are to protect the society. The doctor told the victim’s mother, that “it is impossible to save her life”, but the government out of no reason, shifted her in a hospital abroad, which didn’t change the harsh truth. How easy it is to rape a girl in a bus, in the capital of India. The government might install securities, cameras after cameras in the abode and offices of minister’s, but for the citizens, security is nominal. And it was not the last rape in India, after this also; rape cases have been featured in India, kamduni rape case, June 7, 2013, rape of a kid in Bangalore and many others. The nirbhaya incident forced the legal system to come up with an amendment, criminal amendment act, 2013.

Mukesh’s interview says, “girls roaming outside after 9 pm are not decent”, “girls are themselves responsible for rape”. Opposing the comment, I must point out, there are women, so called the most educated and decent one, who goes out after 9, for their nightshifts, return after work or studies and moreover, why should the girls not have the freedom of secure enjoyment alike, men? They too have the liberty to go to pubs, disco, provided that, it is legal. The prejudice and cruel mind of men, however, tries to dominate and snatch the freedom of women. And the problem here is, more socio-psychological than anything else. The government of India has approved the amendment in the factories act, 1948 to allow women employees to work in night shifts. It suggests that the employer should take due care regarding the safety of women.
Mukesh’s second statement was a bad excuse for justifying his act. When a rape is committed, it’s the rapist who is tempted, it is the rapist who fails to control his desire, eventually, and it is the rapists who commit rape, burning his humanity. It is not the clothes which matter, but, the dimension from which you look.

Now, government’s banning the documentary was highly opposed by the people. Quoting that “banning it will not reduce rapes”. However, will showing it reduce rapes? , will reopen the old wound, act as prevention for not getting that wound again in future? What if they start making a documentary of every rape cases in India, to earn a pile of bucks? Then, they might wish that this type of crimes occur more, for their own commercial gain. The documentary featuring Mukesh's interview was not needed. Every criminal will say nonsense things to justify their act, are we going to record it and feature it every time? Moreover, who is he? A rapist! If u think it is needed to know the viewpoint of a rapist, then use it in your own research and curb crimes like this. What is the point in making it public? Is it for raising controversy? , or monetary gain? Democracy without restrictions can be catastrophic. There should be certain restrictions.
Nirbhaya rape case is not the first one to be so brutal. On February 23, 1991, when units of Indian army launched a search and interrogation operation in the village of konan poshpora, located in Kashmir, almost 100 women were gang-raped by Indian soldiers. But, the Indian government rejected the allegation as baseless. Even, the govt. Launched a campaign to acquit the soldiers. The human rights organisation have expressed serious doubts about the manner the investigation were conducted. Villagers even claimed that no such police investigation has taken place at all.
During the intervening night, between February 5 and 6, 2012, a woman was raped in park street, Kolkata. Latter, Mamata Banerjee, cm, commented on the incident as “cooked-up story”, for her own political gain.
June 7, 2013, a student in kamduni (20 km from Kolkata), was abducted, raped and murdered. Latter, Mamata Banerjee, cm, assured that culprits will be arrested but, it was not done for political reasons. The place is full of mafias, women passing by often has to face lewd comments. A hooch den even operates there, beside the tmc party office.
It is really unfortunate, people, political leaders, for their own political whims and fantasies, dare to play with common people’s life. Bureaucrats, civil servants also, alike political leaders, plays this game. It is a high time to revamp our minds because, if you want to change, it starts with yourself. Unless and until we are changing our views and the way we look at things, there will be more nirbhaya, kamduni cases.
